DADAMAX

Collage by Max Ernst for "La Révolution Surréaliste", 1929

After making photoworks (photographs of still lifes) for nearly eight years, early this year (2018) i started to make collages (again!). From the early eighties (artschool) untill the mid nineties i must have made hundreds of them.

This website is about my new works: collages in a series called “dadamax”, inspired by Max Ernst and with the use of old engravings, drawing and painting. Most collages are made digitally, some in the traditional way.
In most of the collages i use one or more elements that Max Ernst used in his collages nearly a century ago.

If you’re interested in my photoworks please visit my website keesschouten.com (english) or keesschouten.nl (nederlands).

Collages

From the early eighties (artschool) untill the mid nineties i must have made hundreds of collages. I used all kinds of material i could stick together: newspaper and magazine photographs, engravings from old books or reprints, erotic postcards from a century ago, wrapping paper, envelopes, packing material and cardboard. Maybe i’m forgetting something.
Sure. I used drawings, mostly my own, pieces of painted paper, coins, rope, wood, …

In the new collages i use many (copies of) old engravings with clouds, wind and a simple view on the earth. I use this mostly as a background.
On top of that i use pictures of women, boats, fish, etc. from a collection i gathered through the years.

Wind, an element also used by max Ernst in a few of his collages.
